Kia ora!
Welcome to “The Change Makers” – a weekly video series.
In this series our Change Makers share their stories, their thoughts, their ambitions and their actions to leave the earth a better place – to be a Good Ancestor to future generations.
Our planet is experiencing catastrophic environmental harm and it requires us to Think Long Term, beyond our lifetimes, to evaluate our choices and to take actions to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for all.
The stories of those leading the change – The Change Makers – those thinking and acting with long term vision, are inspirational.
Inspired, we can ask ourselves, “what can we do to be Better Ancestors?”
This week, Better Ancestors visits with Adrienne & Robert Scott, Reclaimed Timber Traders in Palmerston North, Manawatu, Aotearoa / New Zealand.
Adrienne & Robert lead a team pioneering a sustainable business model that not only repurposes our precious timber resource but also provides employment opportunities and a sense of purpose for people who are disadvantaged or struggle to find a role in the system
Reclaimed Timber Traders (RTT) is the business arm of a charitable trust, Human Aid Focus New Zealand. RTT works in partnership with other community and social enterprise organisations locally, nationally and internationally. RTT offers employment and volunteer opportunities for people who find it difficult to find work.
Using careful processes, waste wood is reclaimed, deconstructed, sorted and refurbished to useful timber and timber products. Treated timbers are repurposed and used above ground, avoiding the leaching of poisonous chemicals into our soils and waterways. Scarce NZ native timbers are available to be used for furniture making and traditional carving.
Committed to growing a business that is socially inclusive, reduces waste and repurposes our precious timber resource Reclaimed Timber Traders are inspirational visionaries. Thinking long term, acting for those that follow they leave the world a better place.
